104. 5 Star Review

When you are preparing for a conversation, meeting, presentation, etc – it is important for you to determine what are the critical success factors ahead of time.  What would you need to show, do, accomplish for you to get a 5 star review?  Sometimes we go through our days, weeks and months from meeting to meeting but not really being diligent in preparing to get the most out of each encounter.  If you spend some time upfront preparing by thinking about what will get you rave reviews and then incorporating those ideas into your discussions, you will be more likely to land your ideas, POV, analysis, and recommendations.

101. Sincere Thanks

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!  We did it!  Today is a milestone because a little more than 4 months after I started this project, I just posted my 100th insight.  I could not have done this without the ideas, support and feedback from you my extended family, friends, colleagues and readers.  Many of you have reached out to me with well wishes, requests for more and questions about what comes next. I appreciate all the congratulations and celebrate with you!  I do think I have a few more insights to share so keep an eye out for more to come 🙂

Welcome

WOW – Time Flies!! This month is my 24 year Anniversary at Microsoft. I have had the great fortune to work with some pretty amazing people on a variety of really cool projects.  This month I also dropped my daughter off at college to start a new, important chapter for her. These two big milestones have a connection.

How? I wanted to give my daughter a unique, special and meaningful gift as she moved on to college and beyond. I came up with the idea of compiling my top personal insights from my time at Microsoft and sharing them with her. We spent this past summer together reviewing these memorable lessons, picking ones that she related to and discussing how they could apply to us both. It is my hope that armed with these insights she may have a slightly easier start than if she had to start from a blank slate.

At work I mentor a number of colleagues, both men and women, but haven’t found a successful way to scale these relationships into greater learnings for others. While thinking about this collection of insights, I shared some of my ideas with my mentees, friends and colleagues. They were excited about the concept, interested in hearing these insights and passing them on to others. In fact it is one of my friends who suggested publishing a blog to spread the word on a broader scale. It is because of their interest and support that today Catch Insights! has become a reality.

I am excited about taking this opportunity to pay it forward and share some of my thoughts and personal insights with others..to give back in my own way. I certainly don’t expect all my personal insights to resonate with any one visitor but it is my hope that there will be one or two that are of interest to each. I don’t even expect that there is excessive agreement with my point of view, but I am excited to create a forum where visitors can have discussion on a variety of topics and get different perspectives.

So with that intro, it is my goal to share one personal insight a day for 100 days with you. Let the countdown begin!
