1. Introduce Yourself First and Share Connection

There is always some uncertainty when you are meeting someone for the first time.Who are they? What will they be like? What do they know about me? What will they be like to work with? I like to make a preemptive move and be the first one to introduce myself. It messages that you are eager to close the gap between you and your new colleagues. What I found most helpful was during the brief introduction of myself, I would relate how I was connected to them or their work. Ideally I would connect the dots in a subtle way to state how knowing more about my work might benefit them. This makes our connection more immediate, gets us off on the right note and helped me stand out from others.
